When I put this look together I knew instantly that I was a Warrior Queen. I have long felt like my jewelry is a source of protection but with this look in particular my adornments looked and felt as if they truly were armor. As I walked around I even felt myself feeling taller and more powerful in my presence. To be a woman, especially a woman of color it truly does require a remarkable amount of strength. Though vulnerability is key in our personal relationships it is a simple truth that a Feminine must be able to be a protector for herself in this modern world. Never before now have I felt so completely confident in my ability to protect and honor myself with integrity. No matter what challenge or adversary comes my way I know in the depth of my heart I can conquer all. Through my connection to self and recognition of my union with the divine I feel my awareness and the potency of my light grow each day. Today, I definitely let my imagination run free. I asked myself if I truly was a Warrior Queen who would fight at my side. The answer can be found in the photo sequence below. THE MAGICIAN

This pink rabbit dress and matching cardigan have been in my wardrobe since I was seventeen and they both remain staples. In animal symbolism the rabbit is often thought to be representative of two distinct energies, either love or fear. I find it very curious that the same animal is thought to be representative of energies that are polar opposites. I also find beauty in that. It really shows through one symbolic animal the power of perspective and that the lenses we view things through are entirely our own. We are truly the energetic conductors of our universe. This dualistic rabbit energy made me think of one of the most powerful and well known quotes from the Emerald Tablets, “as above so below, as the universe so the soul.” This quote is a reminder that our external reality is deeply influenced by our internal reality. If we want our world to be full of peace, love and abundance first we must generate all that energy within our own being. Power truly lies in our hands, in our minds and in our perceptions. STRANGE BEAUTY

I was gifted this blood orange dress recently by one of my sweetest friends. Though I thought it was lovely it didn’t quite fit my body type. In a moment of inspiration I turned the dress around so that it was backwards and then gave it a few rips to make it a halter top. I suddenly found myself loving the piece. I found myself thinking about how we are instructed how to wear things. From childhood we are told what matches and what doesn’t, what to wear during what season and what is out of style. I have never been a fan of being told what to do in any sense, including fashion. My first cd growing up was by a group called Kris Kross. One of the stand out things to me about the group is the way they would wear their jeans and outer apparel backwards. I thought it was so funky as a child. Looking back on it I wonder if part of my rebellious attitude when it comes to fashion is because of that album. I decided that I wanted this Alien Aesthetic to include things that were out of place yet striking and beautiful, much like I consider myself and my fashion sense. So, this edition of Alien Aesthetic is a dedication strange beauty and soft rebellion.
